Butler Snow is pleased to announce it is participating in Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule 5.0, further reinforcing its commitment to increasing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce at the firm and in the legal profession.
The goal of the Mansfield Rule is to boost the representation of historically underrepresented lawyers in law firm leadership. Now entering its fifth year, the Mansfield Rule has become the standard by which law firms track and measure that they have affirmatively considered at least 30% women, lawyers from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, lawyers with disabilities and LGBTQ+ lawyers for top leadership roles, senior-level lateral hiring, promotions into the equity partnership, and participation in client pitch meetings.
Recent data shows that the Mansfield Rule is succeeding at its goal. The “early adopter” firms piloting the Mansfield Rule since its 2017 inception have increased the racial and ethnic diversity of their management committees by 30 times the rate of non-Mansfield Rule firms.
Butler Snow believes that inclusion and diversity are key drivers of innovation and creativity. The firm’s culture is rooted in collaboration and partnership, and an inclusive environment is paramount to preserving that culture and delivering an elevated level of client service.
Butler Snow’s inclusivity committee, firm leadership and recruiting practices ensure that the firm accurately reflects the diverse clients they serve and fosters diversity within the larger legal community. The firm is also a proud member of the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance, Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, all of which work to build a more diverse and inclusive legal profession.
