Butler Snow attorney Andrea La’Verne Edney has been elected as 2022 Vice President by the membership of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). She will serve as the organization’s first female African American National President in 2024. Edney has been a distinguished member of ABOTA since 2015 and has previously served as an ABOTA board member and a faculty member of the Masters in Trial Program.
ABOTA is an invitation-only national association of 7,600 experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees the right to civil jury trials. ABOTA’s primary goal is to educate the American public about the history and value of the right to trial by jury and is dedicated to elevating the standards of skill, integrity, honor and courtesy in the legal profession.
Edney practices within the pharmaceutical, medical device and health care litigation group. With more than 24 years of litigation experience, she has significant trial experience in state and federal courts in Mississippi and other states and has tried numerous cases to verdict. She has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America® since 2016 and recognized by Super Lawyers®, Chambers USA and Benchmark Litigation. In 2018, she was honored as Lawyer of the Year by the Mississippi College School of Law.
Edney is a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, International Society of Barristers, American College of Trial Lawyers and the Mississippi Bar Foundation. She is a member of the Mississippi, American, Capital Area, Fifth Circuit and Tennessee Bar Associations. Edney received her undergraduate degree from Alcorn State University and her Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law.
