Butler Snow attorney Anita Modak-Truran will speak at a workshop ahead of the annual American Conference Institute’s 2024 Drug & Medical Device Litigation conference on Monday, December 2, at 1:30 pm. Modak-Truran, alongside three other speakers, will lead the workshop titled “Demystifying and Defeating Junk Science in the Courtroom: Techniques to Identify and Challenge Unreliable Evidence,” examining ways to recognize and prevent junk science from entering the courtroom.
Since 1995, ACI’s Drug & Medical Device Litigation Conference has allowed pharmaceutical and medical device companies and their outside counsel to exchange thoughts on the latest developments and challenges in product liability litigation, as well as discuss the guiding principles for minimizing damage in times of crisis. This year’s conference will take place on December 3-4, 2024, in New York City, NY.
Modak-Truran is a member of Butler Snow’s Pharma, Medical Device and Healthcare Litigation practice group. She brings over 30 years of experience and has worked on thousands of cases, working collaboratively with clients and teams of lawyers to develop and implement innovative case work up and trial strategies. Her practice includes intellectual property litigation and counseling, drug and device litigation and commercial litigation. Additionally, she works on a wide variety of business and litigation matters in the entertainment and media industry. Among others, she has represented motion picture and television companies, television stations, newspapers, record labels, music companies and talent.
Modak-Truran is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell®, and her work has been recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers®, in addition to Best Lawyers in America®. She has served in leadership positions for the Trial Attorneys of America, Litigation Counsel of America, Defense Research Institute, Mid-South Intellectual Property Institute Advisory Board and other prominent legal associations. She is a frequent presenter, panelist and moderator, and previously taught as an adjunct law professor at Tulane University, the Mississippi College School of Law and the University of Mississippi School of Law. She served as Chief Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago from 1997 to 1998. She has also been recognized in America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators® from 2019-2024.
Modak-Truran obtained her Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Chicago and is admitted to the State Bars of Illinois, Mississippi and Tennessee, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, both Districts of Mississippi, the Middle, Eastern, and Western Districts of Tennessee, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Seventh Circuits, the U.S. Supreme Court and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Tribal Courts.
