Butler Snow Attorney Bradley Mayhew Appointed as Honorary Consul to the Republic of Iceland

Butler Snow attorney Bradley C. Mayhew was recently appointed Honorary Consul to the Republic of Iceland. The nomination was made by Svanhildur Hólm Valsdóttir, the Icelandic Ambassador to the United States, and the nomination was approved by both the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. State Department.

In this role, Mayhew will serve as a consular official and liaison to Icelanders who live in, or are visiting, Alabama and neighboring states and who need assistance from the Icelandic embassy in Washington, D.C. Mayhew will work with the Director of the Alabama District Office of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and with Alabama officials of the U.S. Energy Department in charge of Arctic Energy Policy for Iceland, to foster commerce between Iceland and Alabama. 

Mayhew joins twenty other honorary consular officials serving Iceland throughout the United States. He attended the 9th Conference of Honorary Consuls (held every six years) in Reykjavík, Iceland, welcoming one hundred honorary consular officials from across the globe. Honorary Consuls met with the newly elected President of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir, the Prime Minister, the Secretary of State and many other government officials. The event also included a meet and greet with many of Iceland‘s top international business leaders.

As a member of Butler Snow’s Finance, Real Estate and Restructuring group, Mayhew serves clients with his expertise in a variety of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, business reorganizations, business structure and capitalization, business and commercial transactions, financial services, commercial lending, real estate law, estate administration, estate and trust planning, corporate and partnership taxation, and aviation law.

He is a member of the American and Birmingham Bar Associations and is a former Chairman of the Alabama State Bar’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section. Mayhew is also a member of the National Federation of Independent Businesses and the Farrah Law Society.

Mayhew earned his bachelor’s and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Alabama and his Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University. He is admitted to the State Bar of Alabama, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and the U.S. Tax Court.
