Butler Snow attorney D. Todd Smith has been named Course Director of the inaugural Texas Bar CLE course titled “Handling Your First (or Next) Business Court Case.” The course will be held on December 12, 2024, at the Texas Law Center in Austin, Texas. A live webcast of the event will be streamed the day of the event and will be replayed on January 14, 2025. Attendees will receive 6.25 hours of MCLE credit.
The course will provide an overview of the new Texas Business Court and practical advice for lawyers with cases that may fall within its jurisdiction. Featured speakers include three Business Court judges and all justices on the Fifteenth Court of Appeals, which has exclusive jurisdiction over appeals from the Business Court. Presenters will offer insight from these courts’ first few months of operation and updates across the relevant legal landscape.
As a member of Butler Snow’s Commercial Litigation group, Smith has devoted his career to appellate practice. Aside from frequent appearances at continuing education programs, he is the creator, producer, and co-host of the Texas Appellate Law Podcast, which demystifies appellate law and pulls back the curtain on the appellate system through conversations with judges, court staff, and top trial and appellate practitioners.
