Caitlyn Burchfield is an attorney with Butler Snow LLP, which she joined in September 2014. She is a summa cum laude graduate of the Honors program at the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Cardinal Key, and the Chi Omega fraternity, and is a 2014 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law, where she was Managing Editor of the Law & Psychology Review. She works in the Public Finance Group of Butler Snow. Caitlyn is admitted to the State Bars of Alabama and Mississippi, the U.S. District Courts for all Districts of Alabama and Mississippi, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Caitlyn has experience with various types of tax-exempt and taxable debt, including direct bank placements and public market offerings, general obligation bonds, revenue bonds, bond anticipation notes, tax anticipation warrants, USDA financings, and refundings of prior issuances. Caitlyn’s representative projects include developments in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, New Hampshire, Texas, Massachusetts, and California. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the National Association of Bond Lawyers.
Caitlyn’s work has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® as “One to Watch” in both Public Finance and Real Estate law for four consecutive years (2021-2024). In Fall 2021, she was recognized in the Birmingham Business Journal’s 2021 NextGen: Law, which honors up-and-coming individuals in the legal world who are under the age of 40. - Served as underwriter’s counsel in connection with bond issues to finance the acquisition or construction of continuing care retirement communities in numerous states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas.
- Served as co-bond counsel in connection with the issuance by an Alabama water works board of its $480,995,000 senior taxable water revenue refunding bonds.
- Served as co-bond counsel in connection with the issuance by an Alabama city of its $128,645,000 general obligation warrants (taxable and tax-exempt).
- Served as counsel to California banking corporation in connection with various transactions, including intercreditor agreement, loan modifications, waivers, and the issuance of taxable and tax-exempt indebtedness.
- Served as purchaser’s counsel to North Carolina banking corporation in connection with over a dozen tax-exempt direct placements in Tennessee, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
- Served as bond counsel to Alabama County in connection with the refinancing of interim tax anticipation warrants and purchase of permanent warrant by USDA.
- Served as bond counsel to Alabama County in connection with the issuance of a tax-exempt equipment lease agreement.
- Served as underwriter’s counsel to Mississippi utility authority in connection with the issuance of $146,890,000 Taxable Revenue Refunding Bonds.
- Served as bond counsel to a Mississippi medical center in connection with the issuance of tax-exempt and taxable revenue bonds exceeding $130,000,000 for the purpose of refunding certain outstanding indebtedness and expanding hospital facilities.
- Served as bond counsel to an Alabama special care authority in connection with the issuance of a tax-exempt series of bonds exceeding $80,000,000 for the purpose of renovating and expanding senior living facilities.
- Served as bond counsel to a Mississippi corporation in connection with the issuance of solid waste disposal revenue bonds exceeding $17,000,000 for the purpose of making capital improvements to various solid waste facilities.
- Served as underwriter’s counsel for revenue bonds exceeding $60,000,000 by a public university in Mississippi to expand its athletic facilities, finance various capital expenditures, and refund outstanding indebtedness.
- Served as co-underwriters’ counsel in connection with the issuance by an Alabama water works board of taxable water revenue bonds exceeding $300,000,000 for the purpose of refunding outstanding indebtedness.
