Lance is a member of Butler Snow’s Constitutional and Civil Rights Litigation practice group.

Experience

  • Prior to becoming an attorney, Lance was a minister for eleven years, and he credits those years as integral for developing his advocacy skills.
  • As an attorney, Lance has served in both the public and private sectors, but the bulk of his experience consists of defending counties, elected county officials, and county employees across Mississippi in 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and Mississippi Tort Claims Act, Miss. Code Ann. § 11-46-1, et seq. litigation.
    • Successfully obtained summary judgment in a wrongful-death case against Clay County, Mississippi, on procedural grounds and on the defense of qualified immunity. On appeal to the Fifth Circuit, a three-judge panel affirmed the Northern District of Mississippi’s judgment. Culberson v. Clay Cnty., 98 F.4th 281 (5th Cir. 2024).
